First you need to know if it is a first or second focal plane scope. Then you have to get hold of the retical subtensions. If second focal plane, need to know at what magnification the subtensions are true. Also need the bullet BC and muzzle velocity. Lastly a ballistic solver that ouput ranges to the closest meter.

Or, just get hold of Strelok and select your scope retical and magnification.

I am battling with this what appears to be simple concept. 7 x 57, I do not want to zero at 100 - I want 200 m zero, then the various drops. Where can i get info on this matter.
How do I set up my different hash levels and know where- what distance at etc

Good news, I got hold of the new owners via whatsapp (their number is on the facebook page, but not on their website.) They are working quite hard on restoring their reputation as far as consistency goes, hence the delays/ backlogs.

@ds-j - the 458-2" works great out to about 150 m - 2" high and 2" low both travelled 😉 through in route. I have shot at 220m and the entrance wound was too high and the exit was too...

I have been using Vipers bullets for a while, when they were based in Gauteng. Then I heard the owner passed away, and a family member took over. He then sold the business, and it has apparently moved to Cape Town (according to their facebook page). I placed an order on their website 2 weeks ago, I had a confirmation e-mail from them, but still no delivery.

Anybody know what's going on there?

@treeman Would it work for those 20m - 80m shots? Why / why not? A friend of mine used a 444 Marlin for hs bushveld work and only complained when shots went over 120m.

(I want to remember that we did speak about this previously?)

Do you have a big, heavy calibre for these short ranges? Maybe something like a 444 or similar? Or even a shotgun with slugs? Or maybe even a hunting handgun?

I eventually settled on the Spoor bullet, but found it way to "much" or over engineered for my first need - that being shots at 30-80 m rarely over a hundred meter. The Spoor is a Premium bullet and wasted when shooting 50 m shots at 2100 fps POI.
I then went back to the Hornady Interlok soft point and played around with the velocity and POI.

I think I got lucky, perhaps it works like this, dunno ?

I got the Spoor 140 gr bullet at max able to achieve load that was also quarter inch group and set rifle to1.8 inch high at 100 m. I then started fiddling with the Hornady 154 gr bullets speeds below 2300 fps. I noted that the group below 2455 fps stayed half inch and better as I reduced velocity, but more importantly ! The group kept moving left on the target - my ideal wanted velocity was a thumb suck "I like" 2200 fps. Unbelievably, at exactly 2200 fps the Hornady was half inch right of the Spoor bullet at 100 m
I now had two loads that shot as follows - one at 2677 fps 1.8 inch high dead centre and one at 2200 fps shooting flat dead on vertically but about 1.5 cm to right. Ie: still in the one inch black square at 100 m

So Cody in the intended use for one specific farm Cody can load the Hornady cartridges and carry loose Spoor loads for if a far shot presents itself - which has not happened at intended use farm over the last 12 - 15 animals.
I then also have the Spoor loads useable and ready with no scope change for everyday hunting on any farm.

Was worrying, because we were really battling on the close range farm with 40-60 m shot meat damage at 2600 -2700 fps.
So all this is tested on paper, will check it all on game this week end.
